INSTRUCTORS

Sgt. Darlene Geiser, Retired from the Jacksonville, Fl. Police/Sheriff's Office after 23 years of service in Patrol and Special Operations. Darlene was one of the first females hired in Patrol Division and to be promoted to Sergeant, thus supervised Patrol officers, the K-9 Unit for seven years, 4-Wheel Drive for 5 years, the Marine Unit for 3 years and the Mounted Unit for 16 years, which she formed in 1981. She has been teaching Mounted Police schools Nationwide since 1988. As a result of her police work she has been featured on televisions shows such as "PM Magazine", "Top Cops" and "America's Horse". Her famous police horse, "Bold", a Palomino Quarter Horse, was immortalized with his image made into a Breyer model in 1997. The only police horse ever to hold this honor. Darlene now prides herself as being the director of Mounted Police Training accredited through the Southern Police Institute/University of Louisville, Ky. She serves as Chief Mounted Instructor: specializing in unit operations, equine anatomy and horse obstacle training. Darlene believes competition is good for training, thus serves as the Director of the Florida Law Enforcement Games - Mounted Police Division. She is a certified Horsemanship Safety Association Instructor and strongly stresses SAFETY.

Chief Pilot Terry Geiser, Retired from the Jacksonville, Fl. Police/Sheriff's Office after 25 years in Patrol and the Aviation Unit. As Chief Pilot of the Aviation Unit, his budgeting and unit operation experience adds to the Mounted Unit operations class. "He knows how to get money from the administrations." He was an Evidence Technician which enhances his specialty of Search and Rescue knowledge. Terry's aviation training in map reading and the use of the GPS gives new knowledge to the officers, as well as his Air Force experience enhances the professionalism of these schools. He specializes in the ground training of young horses and driving. He loves driving his Clydesdales at his Ocala, Florida horse farm.

Col. Gaston Vintevogel, Retired from the Belgian Gendarmerie (National Police) after supervising the Country's 275 Calvary Unit, specializing in crowd control and antiterrorism, for 32 years. Col. Vintevogel commanded the Royal Mounted Escort, a Ceremonial Mounted Unit of 135 horses. He also served as Secretary General of the Belgian National Equestrian Federation, as well as Chief of the Belgian Equestrian Team for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia. Gaston has competed Internationally in Stadium Jumping, 3-Day Event and Dressage, as well as instructing the same. He has been teaching Mounted Police schools and clinics in the United States since 1994. His specialties for our Mounted Police training is equitation, crowd control and selection of the police horse.

Sgt. Chris Laster Currently with the Sarasota, Fl. Sheriff's Office Mounted Unit and Patrol division. Chris serves as the Mounted Unit Supervisor and Trainer of mounted operations. His specialties are equitation, obstacles and Mounted Defensive Tactics. He is also an Emergency Medical Technician and serves as our medical officer. His Air Force experience adds the professionalism and uniformity needed for a well respected organization. He has been teaching Mounted Police schools Nationwide since 1995.

Master Deputy Terry Brewer Currently with the Orange County, Fl. Sheriff's Office (Orlando, Fla.) Terry's experience as a patrol officer and primarily a mounted officer throughout his police career of 17 years enhances these schools. He was previously a high school teacher and has a unique way of classroom instruction. Terry was raised on a race horse farm in Kentucky, thus shares his experiences with horses with the students, which are extremely helpful. He specializes in equitation, obstacles, and instruction for the Mounted Law Enforcement Instructors Course.

Sgt. Tom Hill Currently the supervisor of the Scottsdale, AZ. Mounted Unit. Tom's career has always been focused on Police work. He has been with the Scottsdale Police Department since 1970, serving as a patrol training officer, detective and instructor for the Mobile Field Force and Search and Rescue. Since 1995 he has supervised the Mounted Unit, thus enhancing their very progressive program. He specializes in Unit Management, Search/Rescue, Field Force and Budgeting. This man knows how and where to get what you need! He is number one in public relations. The City of Scottsdale recently selected him for the "City Manager's Award for Excellence". Congratulations Tom! He personally raises Arabian horses, serving as the Director for the Arizona Arabian Horse Association.
Master Patrol Officer Gary Sheldon Currently Gary is a Master Police Officer with the Scottsdale, AZ Mounted Unit. He joined the department in 1975, serving in patrol and as a detective, joining the Mounted Unit in 1987. He is the trainer for their Mounted Unit, as well as an instructor for the search and rescue team. Gary has been on the television show, "America's Horse" with his other unit members, several times demonstrating Mounted Police techniques. Gary was selected as Scottsdale's Police Officer of the Year for 1981, 1982 and the FOP's Officer of the Year for 1984. He is a real asset to the schools as he is very knowledgeable and safe in obstacle training of horses.

Sgt. George Survillo Currently the Boston, MASS. Mounted Police Unit supervisor who specializes in Mounted Unit Operations and crowd control. His vast experience in Intelligence assists with the planning and organizing of major events for the Mounted officers. His experience is very well respected by all and shared openly.
Ron Smith Director U.S. Cavalry Association
Ron's expertise is with the United States Flag Code and Protocol and ceremonial riding. He is a retired Deputy from Harris County Sheriff's Office Texas. He also was the Stubben Saddle rep. for the Western States and provides a course in saddle fitting. Every year he is in charge of the National Military Cavalry competition.
Instructors will be added to the training organization as they become available from various departments, also when resumes are received for various specialized training as approved by Geiser Equine and the Southern Police Institute.
